Overview

EZN-6 is a PEGylated formulation of recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2) developed by Enzon Pharmaceuticals. By conjugating IL-2 with polyethylene glycol (PEG), the drug was designed to have a significantly longer circulating half-life and reduced toxicity compared to native IL-2 (aldesleukin). IL-2 is a cytokine that plays a central role in the immune system by promoting the proliferation and activation of T-cells and natural killer (NK) cells. EZN-6 was investigated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of advanced malignancies, specifically renal cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma, as an immunotherapy to enhance the body's natural anti-tumor response. However, the development of EZN-6 was discontinued in the mid-1990s.
