Pegtarazimod is a synthetic 15-amino-acid peptide developed by ReAlta Life Sciences as a dual-action anti-inflammatory agent. It is designed to inhibit both humoral and cellular components of inflammation by targeting complement activation at C1 (specifically the C1q subcomponent), myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, and neutrophil extracellular trap formation. These mechanisms are implicated in acute inflammatory diseases such as hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma. Pegtarazimod has received orphan drug designation for several indications and is currently in Phase II clinical trials for brain hypoxia-ischemia, COPD, and graft-versus-host disease. The drug demonstrates protective effects on tissues by reducing inflammation markers like MPO and neutrophil elastase while improving survival rates in preclinical models of aGVHD[1][5][6][7][8][9][10].
