Overview

Pegtima is a brand name for pegfilgrastim, a PEGylated form of the recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) analog filgrastim. It is used to stimulate the production of white blood cells in the bone marrow, helping to prevent infections in patients undergoing certain treatments, such as chemotherapy. Pegfilgrastim works by binding to the G-CSF receptor on cells of myeloid lineage, stimulating proliferation, differentiation, and activation of neutrophils. This helps to reduce the risk of febrile neutropenia and infection in patients receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy. The medication has a longer half-life (15-80 hours) compared to the parent compound filgrastim (3-4 hours), which allows for less frequent dosing. It is typically administered as a subcutaneous injection. Pegtima appears to be a biosimilar product of pegfilgrastim, manufactured by Bionovis.
