pegylated IL-11

Pegylated IL-11 (polyethylene glycol-conjugated interleukin-11) refers to long-acting formulations of recombinant human interleukin-11 (rhIL-11) designed to stimulate megakaryocytopoiesis and platelet production while overcoming the short half-life and fluid-retention side effects of unmodified rhIL-11 (oprelvekin). Key development programs include Nansha Biologics (in partnership with Avalon BioMedical/Avalon Biologics), which is developing a mono-PEGylated rhIL-11 for chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia, acute radiation sickness, and severe burns. Another notable candidate is BBT-059, a site-specific PEGylated IL-11 analog developed by Bolder Biotechnology as a medical countermeasure for hematopoietic acute radiation syndrome (H-ARS) and thrombocytopenia. These therapeutics bind to the IL-11 receptor alpha (IL-11RA) subunit and gp130 co-receptor to activate downstream JAK-STAT signaling pathways.
