This investigational combination therapy consists of pegylated interferon alpha 2b (peg-IFN-α2b) and two broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs), 3BNC117 and 10-1074. Developed as part of the BEAT-2 clinical trial led by Luis Montaner at The Wistar Institute, the regimen is designed to achieve sustained HIV-1 viral suppression and reduce the latent viral reservoir in patients undergoing an analytical treatment interruption (ATI). Pegylated interferon alpha 2b acts as an immune modulator that stimulates innate immune responses and exerts direct antiviral effects. The bNAbs 3BNC117 and 10-1074 target the CD4 binding site and the V3 loop/glycan supersite of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120, respectively, to neutralize the virus and potentially enhance the clearance of infected cells through effector functions.
