Overview
This is a combination therapy consisting of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD), a modified anthracycline chemotherapy, and trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting HER2. PLD is encapsulated in liposomes coated with polyethylene glycol to reduce cardiotoxicity and increase tumor-specific delivery. Trastuzumab binds to the extracellular domain of HER2, inhibiting downstream signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation and survival. The combination is used primarily for HER2-positive breast cancer, especially when cardiotoxicity from traditional anthracyclines is a concern.
