Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pegylated recombinant consensus interferon variant is a long-acting Type I interferon developed by Chongqing Fujin Biopharmaceutical for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. It consists of a consensus interferon (interferon alfacon-1) sequence—a synthetic protein designed to represent the most common amino acids across various natural alpha interferon subtypes—conjugated to a polyethylene glycol (PEG) moiety. This pegylation enhances the pharmacokinetic profile by reducing renal clearance and protecting the protein from enzymatic degradation, allowing for weekly subcutaneous administration. The drug binds to the heterodimeric Type I interferon receptor (IFNAR1 and IFNAR2), activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. This leads to the transcription of interferon-stimulated genes that exert potent antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory effects, effectively inhibiting the replication of the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
