Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pehuaxihaimapeptide (HSR-001) is a novel, synthetic, PEGylated peptide that acts as an erythropoietin receptor agonist (ERA). Developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine, it is indicated for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult patients, including those on dialysis and those not on dialysis. Unlike recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) or its analogs, pehuaxihaimapeptide is a peptide-based mimetic with no sequence homology to endogenous EPO, which potentially minimizes the risk of pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) caused by anti-EPO antibodies. The molecule is a PEGylated homodimer that binds to and activates the erythropoietin receptor, thereby stimulating erythropoiesis. Its PEGylated structure provides a prolonged half-life, enabling a convenient once-monthly (every four weeks) dosing schedule. Pehuaxihaimapeptide was approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in June 2024 under the brand name Ruibeide.
