Overview

Pei Tu Ning Feng Tang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal decoction developed for the treatment of Tourette Syndrome (TS), specifically targeting the "Spleen Deficiency and Liver Hyperactivity" syndrome type. The formulation is a combination of seven herbs: *Codonopsis pilosula* (Dangshen), *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Atractylodes macrocephala* (Baizhu), *Poria cocos* (Fuling), *Paeonia lactiflora* (Hangshao), *Uncaria rhynchophylla* (Gouteng), and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Zhi Gancao). It is hypothesized to exert its therapeutic effects by modulating the dopamine (DA)-MAPK-BDNF signaling pathway, influencing gut microbiota composition, and regulating stress hormones and cytokines. Clinical evaluation involves the use of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to observe brain function activation and the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS) to measure symptom reduction.
