Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Peifeikang is a probiotic pharmaceutical product composed of three live bacterial strains: *Bifidobacterium longum*, *Lactobacillus acidophilus*, and *Enterococcus faecium*. It is widely used in China for the treatment of intestinal dysbiosis and related gastrointestinal conditions, including acute and chronic diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal distension. The formulation works by replenishing beneficial gut flora, inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and restoring the ecological balance of the intestinal tract. Beyond its established gastrointestinal indications, Peifeikang is being investigated by researchers at West China Hospital for its potential to modulate the gut-brain axis in patients with refractory epilepsy, aiming to reduce seizure frequency by influencing systemic inflammation and neurotransmitter production.
