Overview
Peiyuan Mingmu Pills is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by the Eye Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a group of rare genetic disorders that involve a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina. In TCM theory, the drug is targeted at patients with the liver–kidney yin deficiency pattern. Clinical evaluation, including a Phase 0 trial in China, has focused on its ability to improve or stabilize the visual field, visual acuity, and electroretinogram (ERG) responses in adult patients. As a complex herbal mixture, its mechanism involves multi-target effects aimed at neuroprotection and improving ocular microcirculation.
