Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PeliCRM197 is a recombinant form of CRM197, a non-toxic mutant of the diphtheria toxin (specifically a single amino acid substitution of glutamic acid for glycine at position 52). It is produced by Primrose Bio (formerly Pelican Expression Technology) using the Pfenex Expression Technology platform in *Pseudomonas fluorescens*. PeliCRM197 serves as a carrier protein for polysaccharides and haptens in the development and manufacture of conjugate vaccines, enhancing their immunogenicity by recruiting T-cell help. It is a component of several FDA-approved vaccines, including Merck's CAPVAXIVE (a 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine) and VAXNEUVANCE (a 15-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine), as well as the Serum Institute of India's Pneumosil and MenFive vaccines. It is the only commercially available cGMP-grade recombinant CRM197 used in marketed vaccines and is supported by a Drug Master File (DMF) filed with the US FDA.
