Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pelprazole is an oral, gastro-resistant formulation of pantoprazole, a small molecule proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Developed and marketed by Jay Ell Healthcare, it is used to treat acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, and hyperacidity. The drug works by irreversibly inhibiting the gastric H+/K+ ATPase enzyme (the proton pump) in the parietal cells of the stomach, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. It is typically administered as a 40mg enteric-coated tablet to ensure the active ingredient bypasses the acidic environment of the stomach and is released in the intestines for absorption.
