Allogeneic natural killer (NK) cell immunotherapy is a cellular biologic therapy developed by Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou, China. The therapy involves the ex vivo expansion of allogeneic NK cells, which are then administered intravenously to target and destroy cancer cells through natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity. In clinical settings, particularly for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and recurrent solid tumors, it is evaluated in combination with the PD-1 inhibitor pembrolizumab. This combination approach aims to enhance the anti-tumor immune response by combining the direct cytotoxic effects of NK cells with the checkpoint inhibition provided by pembrolizumab. Clinical studies have demonstrated that this combination can yield improved survival benefits in patients with previously treated PD-L1 positive advanced NSCLC compared to pembrolizumab monotherapy.
