Overview

This is a pharmaceutical combination consisting of **pembrolizumab** (a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting the programmed death-1 (PD-1) receptor), **carboplatin** (a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent), and **paclitaxel** (a microtubule-stabilizing agent). Pembrolizumab enhances anti-tumor immune responses by blocking PD-1-mediated inhibition of T-cell activity. Carboplatin induces cytotoxicity via DNA crosslinking, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Paclitaxel disrupts microtubule function, inhibiting cell division and inducing apoptosis. This combination is FDA-approved for first-line therapy in metastatic squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), primary advanced or recurrent endometrial carcinoma, and is in phase IV trials for recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC)[1][3][4].
