Overview

Pemvidutide is a novel, investigational peptide-based dual agonist of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) and the glucagon receptor. It is being developed primarily for the treatment of obesity and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), formerly known as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Pemvidutide mimics both GLP-1 and glucagon hormones; by activating GLP-1 receptors it promotes satiety and reduces appetite, while activation of the glucagon receptor increases energy expenditure. This dual mechanism aims to achieve significant weight loss with preservation of lean muscle mass and improvement in liver fat content. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection. Pemvidutide is an analogue of oxyntomodulin and utilizes Altimmune’s EuPort technology for enhanced pharmacokinetics[1][3][5][7][8].
