Overview

Penicillin G potassium is a natural penicillin antibiotic belonging to the β-lactam class. It works by killing bacteria that cause infections, primarily by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It comes as a powder to be mixed with water or as a premixed product for injection. It is used to treat and prevent certain infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria. Chemically, Penicillin G potassium is monopotassium (2S,5R,6R)-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-6-(2-phenylacetamido)-4-thia-1-azabicyclo(3.2.0)heptane-2-carboxylate. It has a molecular weight of 372.48.
