Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Penicillin V and amoxicillin are beta-lactam antibiotics belonging to the penicillin and aminopenicillin classes, respectively. Developed and manufactured by Jiangsu Weiqida Pharmaceutical, these agents are used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Both drugs exert their antibacterial effect by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential enzymes involved in the synthesis and remodeling of the bacterial cell wall. Inhibition of PBPs leads to the weakening of the cell wall and subsequent bacterial lysis. While the pipeline context lists these as separate products (including Penicillin V Potassium tablets and Amoxicillin capsules/injectables), they represent the core of the company's penicillin-based anti-infective portfolio.
