Overview

**PentaStaph** is a pentavalent vaccine candidate developed to prevent **Staphylococcus aureus** infections, including multidrug-resistant strains like MRSA. It comprises five antigen components: three targeting **S. aureus** polysaccharides (Types 5 and 8 capsular polysaccharides and Type 336 cell-wall polysaccharide) to enhance bacterial clearance, and two neutralizing key virulence toxins—**Panton-Valentine Leukocidin** (predominant in community-acquired MRSA) and **alpha toxin** (produced by nearly all **S. aureus** isolates). This multi-target approach demonstrated significant efficacy in preclinical animal models against a broad spectrum of strains by boosting opsonophagocytic antibodies and toxin neutralization, addressing high unmet needs in hospital-associated and community infections.[1][2]
