Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The pentavalent reassortant rotavirus attenuated live vaccine (referred to in Sinovac's pipeline and clinical trials as a hexavalent vaccine) is an oral, live-attenuated biologic developed by Sinovac Life Sciences for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants and young children. The vaccine is designed to provide broad-spectrum protection against the most prevalent rotavirus strains, specifically targeting six serotypes: G1, G2, G3, G4, G9, and P[8] (P1A). This coverage is broader than existing pentavalent vaccines like RotaTeq, as it includes the G9 serotype which has become increasingly common in China and globally. The vaccine is produced using Vero cell technology and is administered orally in a three-dose regimen. It is currently in Phase II clinical development, following the initiation of Phase I trials in early 2024.
