Overview

Pentavalent rotavirus vaccine is a live attenuated oral biologic designed to prevent rotavirus infection, a leading cause of severe gastroenteritis in infants and young children. The vaccine typically contains five live reassortant rotavirus strains targeting multiple serotypes (such as G1, G2, G3, G4, and P[8] or G9). One specific formulation, **Rota-V-Aid™**, was developed by **Pharm Aid** in collaboration with the **Serum Institute of India** as a freeze-dried (lyophilized) oral preparation. It functions by stimulating a mucosal and systemic immune response against the rotavirus pathogen. Clinical evaluations, including Phase 3 trials in healthy infants, have demonstrated its efficacy and safety in preventing rotavirus-related gastroenteritis.
