Overview

Pentixafor is a peptide-based radiopharmaceutical imaging agent that targets the C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4), a G-protein-coupled receptor overexpressed in various cancers and some benign tumors. It is primarily used as a tracer for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging after being labeled with gallium-68. Pentixafor binds specifically to CXCR4 on cancer cells, enabling sensitive and specific visualization of tumor burden and disease staging in conditions such as marginal zone lymphoma, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, neuroendocrine tumors, thymoma, leukemia, and adrenal gland disorders. The drug does not have therapeutic effects but serves as an advanced diagnostic tool for oncology and hematology applications. PentixaFor has received orphan drug designation from the European Medicines Agency for use in marginal zone lymphoma diagnosis and staging[1][4][5][7].
