pentoxifylline + sertraline

Pentoxifylline + sertraline is a combination of two small molecule drugs used together, primarily investigated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases synaptic serotonin levels in the central nervous system by inhibiting its reuptake at presynaptic neurons, leading to enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission and antidepressant effects. Pentoxifylline is a methylxanthine derivative with vasodilatory, hemorheologic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties; it acts mainly by lowering blood viscosity through increased erythrocyte flexibility and reduced platelet aggregation. Its mechanism involves non-specific inhibition of cyclic-3',5'-phosphodiesterase (PDE), elevation of intracellular cAMP levels, and possible modulation of adenosine A2A receptor function.
