Pep-3-EcTI is a synthetic peptide derived from the *Enterolobium contortisiliquum* trypsin inhibitor (EcTI), a plant-derived protease inhibitor. Developed by researchers at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), it is being investigated for the treatment of chronic inflammatory airway diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma-COPD overlap (ACO). The peptide functions as a protease inhibitor with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Preclinical studies have shown that Pep-3-EcTI can reduce airway hyperresponsiveness, attenuate inflammatory cell infiltration in the lungs, and inhibit extracellular matrix remodeling and NF-κB expression, demonstrating therapeutic potential comparable to traditional corticosteroids like dexamethasone.
