Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PEP2 (QAMPFRVTEQE) is an egg-white-derived bioactive peptide that acts as an insulin mimetic and sensitizer. Identified from egg white hydrolysate (EWH), PEP2 has been shown to enhance peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) protein abundance and activation in adipocytes. In preclinical models of diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance, dietary supplementation with PEP2 improves systemic insulin sensitivity, enhances insulin signaling in white adipose tissue, and modulates ex vivo lipolysis. Furthermore, PEP2 has been shown to reduce hepatic steatosis, decrease hepatic cholesterol accumulation, and reduce hepatic inflammatory infiltration, making it a potential candidate for the management of metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
