Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**PepFect14-mRNA nanoparticles** are experimental non-lipid messenger RNA delivery nanoparticles formed by electrostatic complexation of the amphipathic cell-penetrating peptide PepFect14 with an mRNA cargo. The PF14 carrier promotes cellular uptake and intracellular delivery of the encoded mRNA, enabling transient protein expression. In cell models, uptake has been associated principally with macropinocytosis and, depending on cell type, clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Preclinical studies have evaluated reporter-mRNA delivery in irritant contact dermatitis models after subcutaneous administration and in intraperitoneal ovarian cancer models. The term denotes a delivery-platform family rather than one defined medicinal product because the therapeutic protein and biological target depend on the particular mRNA cargo.
