PeproStat is a first-in-class, synthetic peptide-based topical haemostat developed to control bleeding during surgical procedures. Unlike traditional haemostats that rely on blood-derived enzymes such as thrombin, PeproStat uses a short peptide sequence that binds directly to fibrinogen in the patient's blood at the wound site, promoting rapid localized clot formation and achieving haemostasis. This mechanism eliminates risks associated with blood-derived products and offers a ready-to-use, stable formulation with fast action. Clinical trials have demonstrated its safety and efficacy in reducing time to haemostasis compared to standard care (gelatin sponge), with no treatment-related serious adverse events or re-bleeding observed. The drug has been evaluated primarily for intraoperative surgical bleeding across various types of surgeries including liver/soft tissue, vascular, and spinal procedures[1][2][4][5][6].
