Pepsin, specifically in its patented lyophilized form developed by Enzolytics, is being advanced as a cancer immunotherapy treatment. This polypeptide complex of lyophilized pepsin has demonstrated effectiveness in decreasing the growth and spread of various cancer cells, including mammary adenocarcinoma, cervical carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, adenocarcinoma of the prostate, small cell lung cancer, and carcinoma of the larynx. Its mechanism involves inducing cytopathological changes and significantly reducing the survival and proliferative activity of these cancer cells. Enzolytics is collaborating with the Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology (SAIM) to accelerate its discovery and commercialization, with initial efforts focused on combining it with Monoclonal Antibodies and Immune Therapeutic Proteins to treat malignant antigens.
