Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Peptide Nano-Enzymes (PepNzymes) are engineered peptide-based molecular mimics designed for the treatment of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor autoimmune encephalitis. Developed by researchers at Homestead High School and Moxie Scientist, these PepNzymes are constructed from the NR1 subunit of the NMDA receptor using protein linker design to connect smaller peptides. They are designed to act as stable molecular mimics that specifically bind to and saturate anti-NMDA receptor autoantibodies, thereby preventing them from targeting endogenous NMDA receptors in the brain and mitigating severe neurologic symptoms.
