Overview

Peptide no. 7 is an experimental peptide discovered through phage display technology that specifically binds to heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF). Developed as a potential targeted therapy for ovarian cancer, it functions by interfering with the interaction between HB-EGF and its receptors, such as the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and ErbB4. By sequestering or blocking HB-EGF, the peptide attenuates the activation of downstream signaling pathways, specifically manifested by decreased phosphorylation of Erk1/2 and reduced levels of Snail, a protein associated with the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Preclinical studies have demonstrated that peptide no. 7 effectively inhibits the migration and invasion of ovarian cancer cell lines (SKOV3 and HO-8910) in vitro and shows significant activity in inhibiting tumor cell migration in vivo.
