Peptide-specific dendritic cells are a form of autologous cellular immunotherapy, often categorized as a dendritic cell vaccine, where a patient's own dendritic cells are harvested, matured ex vivo, and pulsed with specific synthetic peptides derived from tumor-associated antigens (TAAs). These loaded dendritic cells are then re-infused into the patient to present the antigens to T cells via MHC molecules, thereby priming and activating a targeted anti-tumor immune response. In clinical research led by Southern Medical University Zhujiang Hospital, these cells—specifically those pulsed with peptides from the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Pathway Substrate 8 (Eps8) or Wilms' Tumor 1 (WT1) proteins—are being evaluated in combination with Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. The goal of this combination is to enhance the expansion, persistence, and overall efficacy of CAR-T cells in treating relapsed or refractory hematological malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS).
