Overview

Peptide X is an experimental therapeutic peptide under preclinical development by the Centre Européen d'Etude du Diabète (CEED) and Tohoku University for the treatment of diabetes. It acts as an inhibitor of MP001, a protein specific to pancreatic β-cells that plays a key role in insulin granule exocytosis and cellular remodeling. By inhibiting MP001, Peptide X has been shown to improve human pancreatic islet survival and function in vitro, enhancing glucose-stimulated insulin secretion and upregulating key survival and insulin signaling pathways, including Akt, IRS1, IRS2, and AS160.
