Overview

Peptide YY 3-36 is a synthetic form of the human gut hormone fragment peptide YY (PYY) comprising amino acids 3 to 36. It is released postprandially from the gastrointestinal tract in proportion to caloric intake and acts as a selective agonist at the neuropeptide Y2 receptor. Its primary mechanism involves reducing appetite and increasing satiety by modulating hypothalamic circuits that regulate energy balance. Peripheral administration of peptide YY 3-36 has been shown to decrease food intake and body weight in both animal models and humans. The compound has been investigated primarily for obesity treatment but also shows potential for metabolic diseases such as diabetes due to its effects on glucose homeostasis[1][2][4][5][6][7].
