PepVax (also known as Aerugen) is an octavalent conjugate vaccine developed for the prevention of *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* infections, particularly in patients with cystic fibrosis. The vaccine consists of purified O-polysaccharides from eight different *P. aeruginosa* serotypes (IATS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10) covalently linked to recombinant *P. aeruginosa* exotoxin A (rEPA). Its mechanism of action involves inducing high titers of IgG antibodies against both the O-antigen components and the exotoxin, thereby promoting opsonophagocytosis and neutralizing the toxin's cytotoxic effects. Despite reaching Phase III clinical trials, development was discontinued after the vaccine failed to meet its primary efficacy endpoints in preventing chronic infection in cystic fibrosis patients.
