perflenapent

Perflenapent, also known as dodecafluoropentane or perfluoropentane, is a small molecule fluorocarbon used primarily as an oxygen-carrying agent and ultrasound contrast agent. It is formulated as an oil-in-water nano-emulsion for intravenous administration. Perflenapent acts by carrying and delivering oxygen to tissues, making it useful in conditions involving hypoxia or ischemia. It has been investigated for use in diagnostic imaging (as a phase-shift colloid ultrasound contrast agent), stroke, glioblastoma, sickle cell anemia, traumatic brain injury, myocardial infarction, hemorrhagic shock, triple negative breast cancer, and respiratory distress. The drug was originally developed by Sonus Pharmaceuticals under the brand name EchoGen for echocardiography and later further developed by NuvOx Pharma under the code name NVX‑108 (NanO2) for various indications including neuroprotection and radiosensitization[1][3][4][5].
