Overview

Perfluoropropane + ranibizumab is a combination therapy used in ophthalmology, particularly for the management of submacular hemorrhage secondary to neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other retinal vascular disorders. Perfluoropropane (C3F8) is an inert gas used as a long-acting intraocular tamponade to help displace subretinal blood, while ranibizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby reducing abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the retina. This combination aims to both physically clear submacular hemorrhage and address the underlying neovascular process[1][2][4][5].
