Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Performance is a commercial sports drink manufactured by Shaklee Corp, primarily used for oral rehydration. It was the subject of a clinical trial conducted by the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System to evaluate its impact on urinary lithogenicity, specifically for the prevention of urolithiasis (kidney stones). The beverage contains 21 mmol/L of sodium, 5.3 mmol/L of potassium, 0.8 mmol/L of calcium, and 19.5 mmol/L of citrate, with a pH of 4.3. The high citrate content is intended to increase urinary citrate excretion and raise urinary pH, which are key factors in inhibiting the crystallization of stone-forming salts such as calcium oxalate.
