Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Peri-Patch is a biological tissue repair scaffold composed of glutaraldehyde-treated bovine pericardium. It is primarily utilized in cardiovascular and vascular surgical procedures, such as carotid endarterectomy, heart valve repair, and the reconstruction of large vessels. The glutaraldehyde treatment process cross-links collagen fibers within the tissue, which enhances mechanical strength, reduces the risk of an immunogenic response, and renders the material resistant to enzymatic degradation while maintaining a degree of flexibility similar to native tissue. As a surgical implant, it provides a biocompatible surface that supports host tissue ingrowth and minimizes suture line bleeding. It was originally developed by Synovis Life Technologies, which is now a subsidiary of Baxter International.
