Overview

An investigational cell therapy consisting of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) formulated in a transdermal hydrogel. Developed by the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Foshan (Southern Medical University Affiliated Maternal & Child Health Hospital of Foshan), this therapy is designed to treat and improve the appearance of cesarean section scars (cicatrix). The mesenchymal stem cells are believed to exert therapeutic effects through their regenerative properties, promoting wound healing and scar tissue remodeling via paracrine signaling and direct cellular interaction. The therapy is currently being evaluated in a Phase II randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (NCT02772289) to assess its long-term efficacy in primiparous women using the Vancouver Scar Scale.
