perindopril

Perindopril is a long-acting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and stable coronary artery disease. It works by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. By blocking this process, perindopril relaxes blood vessels, lowers blood pressure, increases urine output and sodium excretion, and reduces the workload on the heart. Perindopril is administered orally as a prodrug and is converted in the liver to its active metabolite, perindoprilat. The drug was patented in 1980 and approved for medical use in 1988[5][6][7][8].
