perindopril tert-butylamine

Perindopril tert-butylamine is an **angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor** used primarily to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), heart failure, and to reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with stable coronary artery disease. As a prodrug, it is converted in the body to the active metabolite, perindoprilat, which inhibits ACE, reducing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This results in vasodilation and decreased blood pressure. Additional effects include decreased aldosterone secretion and inhibition of kininase II, which may increase bradykinin levels. It is often used as monotherapy or in combination with other drugs like indapamide (a thiazide-like diuretic) or amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) to enhance antihypertensive effects.
