Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**PeriNesta** was Mithra's investigational fixed-dose oral hormonal treatment for women in perimenopause who experienced hot flushes and other vasomotor symptoms while still requiring contraception. The proposed formulation comprised estetrol, a native fetal estrogen produced synthetically for pharmaceutical use, drospirenone, and an unspecified vitamin component. Estetrol provides estrogen-receptor agonism, while drospirenone provides progestogenic activity with antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic properties. Mithra discontinued the PeriNesta research program in 2021 before the planned safety study in women around 50 years of age was conducted.
