Overview
Periplaneta americana aqueous extract fraction <3 kDa, designated as PAW1, is a bioactive fraction isolated from the American cockroach (*Periplaneta americana* L.). It is produced through aqueous extraction followed by ultrafiltration using a 3 kDa molecular weight cutoff membrane. The extract is primarily composed of low-molecular-weight polypeptides, proteins, polysaccharides, phenolics, and flavonoids. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that PAW1 possesses significant anti-inflammatory, tissue-repairing, and immunomodulatory properties. In models of ulcerative colitis, it has been shown to restore gut microbiota balance, maintain intestinal barrier integrity, and modulate inflammatory cytokine levels. Additionally, PAW1 promotes wound healing by inhibiting hyaluronidase activity and stimulating the proliferation of keratinocytes.
