This fraction is isolated through membrane ultrafiltration of aqueous extracts from dried cockroach powder, specifically retaining components with molecular weights exceeding 10 kDa, such as proteins, polypeptides, and polysaccharides. It has been investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating ulcerative colitis (UC), where it has demonstrated the ability to ameliorate colonic inflammation, preserve intestinal barrier integrity, and modulate gut microbiota dysbiosis in preclinical models. While the unfractionated extract is the basis for approved pharmaceutical products in China (e.g., Kangfuxin), the >10 kDa fraction is currently a research-stage compound used to identify the specific active constituents responsible for the extract's medicinal properties.
