Peristem is a proprietary cell therapy product composed of human umbilical cord perivascular cells (HUCPVCs), a specific population of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) harvested from the connective tissue surrounding the blood vessels of the umbilical cord. Developed by Tissue Regenerative Therapeutics (TRT), Peristem cells are characterized by a significantly higher frequency of MSC progenitors and greater proliferative potential compared to cells derived from Wharton's jelly or cord blood. The therapeutic mechanism of Peristem is primarily mediated through paracrine signaling, where the cells secrete a diverse secretome of growth factors, cytokines, and extracellular vesicles that promote angiogenesis, facilitate tissue regeneration, and exert potent immunomodulatory effects. Peristem is being developed for a range of indications in regenerative medicine, including the treatment of critical limb ischemia, bone repair, wound healing, and various inflammatory and autoimmune disorders.
