Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baxter Peritoneal Dialysate refers to a portfolio of sterile, non-pyrogenic solutions manufactured by Baxter International for use in peritoneal dialysis (PD). These solutions are designed to treat patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) by facilitating the removal of metabolic waste products and excess fluid through the peritoneal membrane. The solutions typically contain an osmotic agent—most commonly dextrose (glucose), though icodextrin or amino acids are also used—to create an osmotic gradient that draws fluid from the blood into the peritoneal cavity. Additionally, they contain essential electrolytes (sodium, chloride, calcium, magnesium) and a buffering agent (lactate or bicarbonate) to maintain acid-base balance. Key products in this line include Dianeal, the standard glucose-based solution; Physioneal, which features a more physiological pH; Extraneal, containing icodextrin for long-dwell ultrafiltration; and Nutrineal, an amino acid-based solution for nutritional support.
