Peritrast

Peritrast is an ionic, iodinated X-ray contrast medium developed by Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH. It is unique among ionic contrast agents for its use of the amino acid lysine as a cation, rather than the standard sodium or meglumine, which was designed to improve the physiological tolerability of the medium. The drug's active components typically consist of amidotrizoic acid-lysine salt and sodium amidotrizoate. Peritrast is primarily indicated for diagnostic imaging of the urinary tract (urography) and is also utilized via oral or rectal administration for gastrointestinal imaging. Developed in the early 1960s, it remains a staple in the developer's portfolio of specialized niche pharmaceuticals for intensive care and diagnostic imaging.
