permixon

Permixon is a proprietary lipidosterolic (fatty and sterol) extract of the fruit of the plant Serenoa repens (also known as saw palmetto or dwarf American palm). It is used primarily for the treatment of moderate urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men. The mechanism of action involves multiple pathways within the prostate, including inhibition of both type 1 and type 2 isoenzymes of 5 alpha-reductase (which reduces conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone), interference with binding of dihydrotestosterone to cytosolic androgen receptors in prostate cells, antiandrogenic effects, anti-inflammatory activity, antiproliferative and proapoptotic actions. Permixon has demonstrated efficacy similar to finasteride and α1-blockers in improving urinary symptoms due to BPH but with a favorable side effect profile[3][5]. It does not significantly affect prostate-specific antigen secretion.
