Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Perseris is a long-acting, once-monthly subcutaneous injectable formulation of risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic. It is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults. The drug delivers risperidone in an extended-release system using a poly (DL-lactide-co-glycolide) polymer matrix, allowing for steady medication levels throughout the month without the need for oral supplementation or loading doses. Risperidone acts primarily as an antagonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, helping to balance neurotransmitters involved in mood and thought regulation. Perseris was developed to improve adherence by reducing dosing frequency compared to daily oral formulations[1][2][3][5][9].
