Persica mouthwash

Persica mouthwash is a commercially available herbal oral hygiene product manufactured by Poursina Laboratory in Iran. It contains a 7% alcoholic extract of *Salvadora persica* (miswak), along with mint (*Mentha spicata*) and yarrow (*Achillea millefolium*) extracts. The formulation is rich in sodium chloride, silica, sulfur, and tannins, which provide antimicrobial, antifungal, antiplaque, and anticaries properties. It is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of periodontal disease, dental plaque, and gingivitis. Additionally, clinical studies have explored its efficacy in preventing and reducing pain associated with oral mucositis in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. While its antiplaque efficacy is generally lower than chlorhexidine, it is considered a safe alternative for children and pregnant women due to its herbal composition and lack of significant side effects. Its analgesic mechanism is hypothesized to involve opiate receptors.
